Nickname
October, 1941. The Great War II is in progress and for the first time, the pair Atle-Tiba decides the regional one. In the first game at Joaquim Américo Stadium, on October 19th, the adversary manager rants with full lungs: " German ... fifth column ... white thigh ”.
The insults have a destiny: the German expert player Hans Egon Breyer, ‘full-back’ of Coritiba. The screams finish serving to stimulate the team, that wins for 3x1. In the final game, on October 26th, another victory: now for 1x0. The title is commemorated and the term “ white thigh” becomes a synonym of Coritiba’s fans.
Coritiba and Curitiba
In 1909, club's foundation year, the spelling of the city was done in two different ways: Coritiba, European spelling, and Curytiba, Tupi-Guaranian spelling. Both were correct and were used in books refering to the city. Some years after, Paraná’s capital stayed with only one spelling : Curitiba. But the club chose to keep the traditional name.

Mascot
The most traditional club of the state could not have a different mascot. While a group of young people with German traditions were giving the first "kicks" in 1909, Coritiba Football Club was borning. Today, the figure of an old Germanic man represents the club: our Grandpa Thigh.
The nice character was chosen like mascot because he represents the traditions of the most ancient Paraná team. He conceives Coritiba origins and he is the perfect allegory of an old group, conquering the country, as well as the fans and the club.
Crest
In agreement with Article 9th of Coritiba Statute, the club emblem is: a circle, symbolizing the globe; striped drawing up and down, remembering polar hubcaps; around the circle, inside of two parallel peripheric lines, there is written the name CORITIBA FOOT BALL CLUB with the spelling PARANÁ stated below; and in the center of the globe, with distinction, there is the initial CFC ( Coritiba Football Club).
Shield
The colors green and white remember the state flag; the golden star, above the shield, is the symbol of the biggest conquest of the club: the Brazilian Championship in 1985.
